Volunteer Abroad Under 18

We love that we often have volunteers getting in touch who are under 18 and eager to join a project and volunteer - it's quite an inspiration and at Pod we believe that under 18s should be given the opportunity to volunteer abroad as the projects that we work with can benefit greatly from their hard work. Under 18s bring alot of passion, enthusiasm and new ideas to volunteering overseas and we hope will become global citizens for a better world.

We are delighted to offer under 18s the following volunteering opportunities:

• Independent volunteer trips for 17 year olds, travelling on their own or with friends
• Accompanied volunteer trips that under 18 year olds can join if accompanied by a family member who is aged over 18

Independent Volunteer Trips for 17 year olds

We have several projects that 17 year olds are able to join as individuals or with friends:

• Elephant Care & Research in South Africa
• Horse Rehabilitation in South Africa
• Turtle & Wildlife Conservation in Costa Rica

These projects have been specifically picked out for the good level of support that the team on the ground are able to offer, ideal for first time solo travellers. At each of these projects, volunteers are picked up from the airport and get to spend their time volunteering in amazing ‘off the beaten track’ locations, surrounded by volunteers and staff that are passionate about animal welfare and conservation.

With the exciting opportunity to get involved in animal care and conservation work first hand, 17 year old volunteers joining these projects make a fantastic contribution to their ongoing work in these fields.

Accompanied volunteering for under 18s, including younger teens

We have a variety of projects that can accept volunteers who are under the age of 18 if accompanied by a guardian who is over 18.

This is a great way for younger teens to experience travel and volunteering adventures, forging unforgettable memories with friends and family whilst gaining great experience to take forward with them into any future solo volunteer trips.

Pod liaises with each of our volunteer projects to identify where under 18s are best suited and able to make a valuable contribution to their on-going work. We consider the nature of the work, risk levels, volunteer role and support we can provide onsite and these factors combine to determine which of our projects are best suited for accommodating under 18 volunteers.

You will experience a different culture whilst contributing to an on-going volunteer project which benefits greatly from having volunteers to support their fantastic work. The trips are focussed on assisting the project but there is also time for some relaxation and exploration of the local area.
